Andrew R. “Andy” Andersen, 86, of Oswego, formerly of Fulton passed away peacefully Sunday, September 27, 2026 at Seneca Hill Manor with his loving family by his side.

       He was born June 29, 1940 in Rockville Centre, New York to Andrew W. and Edith A. Doscher Andersen. Andy was a graduate of Southside High School, Class of ’58 in Elmira, New York and graduated from S.U.N.Y. Alfred in Alfred, New York in 1961. Following college, he enlisted in to the U.S. Navy and proudly served aboard the submarines USS Triton and USS Guardfish until his honorable discharge in 1968. Upon his honorable discharge from the Navy, he and his wife, JoAnn traveled from California to New York where he interviewed for several positions before beginning a long and successful career with Niagara Mohawk in 1969. Andy retired from Niagara Mohawk in 1994 as a station shift supervisor.

       Andy had a lifelong passion for being on the water, especially sailing and racing sailboats. He was a life member of the Fair Haven Yacht Club where he served as Commodore in 1984. He was also an active member of the Eastern Yachting Circuit for 20 years. His love for the outdoors extended to canoeing, camping and he even built his own boat.

       Andy and JoAnn shared a wonderful love of travel and adventure. Together, they traveled throughout the United States and abroad accomplishing a remarkable goal of visiting all 50 states. Many of those journeys were made in their RV, and they were proud members of the Onondaga Winnie’s Winnebago Club. Their travels created countless memories and stories that they shared throughout the years.

       In addition to sailing and traveling, Andy enjoyed birdwatching, hiking, biking, and photography. One of his most memorable accomplishments was riding his bicycle on the entire Erie Canal Trail from Buffalo to Albany.

       Andy was a member of Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Fulton. A proud Navy veteran, Andy was a member of the US Submarine Vets Association, the CNYSUBVETS and the American Legion.

       He is survived by his wife of 60 years, JoAnn M. Andersen; his three daughters, Jennifer (David) Hudson of Ocala, FL, Karen (Eric “Ozzy”) Coyne of Tampa, FL and Valerie (Matt Olivier) Andersen of Phoenix, AZ; his brother, Steven (Nancy) Andersen of Littlestown, PA; his sister, Jean Andersen of Victor, NY; two grandchildren, Nathan and Brian Hudson as well as several nieces and nephews.

       Andy was predeceased by his mother, Edith Andersen; his step-mother, Christine Zepp Andersen and by his father, Andrew W. Andersen.

       Calling hours will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., Saturday, October 3, 2026 with services to follow at Brown Funeral Home, 21 Flood Drive in Fulton.
